Obituary

Marsha Kamins, affectionately known as "Meme" to her large and loving family, passed away peacefully on July 19, 2023. Marsha was a remarkable woman who touched the lives of many with her warm heart, infectious laughter, and love for her family.

Born on June 25, 19XX (if you need to know, she was perpetually 25), in Asheville, North Carolina, and raised in Fairfield, Connecticut, she was the daughter of Dr. Samuel and Shirley Spencer.  Marsha is survived by her husband, three sisters, two sons, two sons-in-law, and a large extended family. She adored her nieces and nephews and cherished the time spent with them. Marsha's magnetic personality attracted numerous friends who held a special place in her heart.

Marsha’s love story with her husband, Michael Kamins, began at the University of Connecticut, and spanned an incredible 57 years.  Together they navigated life’s up and down and embedded themselves in the community.  For over 20 years, Marsha worked as a programmer at Hartford Insurance Company, where she made lasting professional relationships and contributed to her community. Additionally, she was an active member of The Emanuel Synagogue where she tirelessly volunteered for any assignment whenever she  could be useful. She could always be counted on to host a Passover Seder or Yom Kippur break fast.

Marsha took pleasure in attending craft fairs, indulging in her love for reading, and singing with gusto, even if her tune didn't always align with the melody. Marsha's unique ability to create impromptu lyrics brought laughter and joy to those around her. In her leisure time, she was an avid player of mah-jong, hand & foot, gin, canasta, and rummikube, and any other group game where talking and gossiping was involved and encouraged. Last week, Marsha achieved a remarkable feat when she solved a wordle puzzle in just two turns! Notably, Marsha remained active with  Zoom exercise class, always striving to maintain an active and healthy lifestyle. In her downtime, Marsha enjoyed spending weekends at the pool, or the beach to bask in the sun.

Marsha brought laughter and lightness to every gathering with her remarkable sense of humor, so much so that she did not even mind being the subject of a joke, as long as she was in on it, and everyone was laughing.

And if that wasn’t enough, Marsha was also renowned for her pink Jello mold and for her sweet potatoes adorned with little marshmallows that she provided to family gatherings.

In memory of Marsha, contributions can be made to Emanuel Synagogue Chesed Fund, honoring her deep commitment to her faith community and acts of kindness.

Marsha Kamins will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. As we bid her farewell, we remember her infectious laughter, loving spirit, and her uncanny ability to bring people together. May her memory be a blessing to us all.
